Indiana Business Growth

Shelbyville, Indiana’s new orthopedic care facility in Intelliplex Tech Park, served by RushShelby Energy and Hoosier Energy, is the community’s newest high-tech economic development project.

RushShelby Energy powers life sciences in central Indiana

reNovo comes from a French word meaning “renew, revive, restore.” That’s why leaders at Major Hospital in Shelbyville, Indiana, chose it as the name of their new orthopedic care facility located in the city’s certified technology park.

The $7 million central Indiana economic development project will bring all aspects of the hospital’s orthopedic practice under one roof, from evaluation to rehabilitation. The 25,000-square-foot building joins Major Hospital’s state-of-the-art Benesse Oncology Center anchoring the life sciences cluster at Intelliplex, the 140-acre certified technology business park located on Interstate 74 in Shelby County.

Another Indiana Business Powered By Hoosier
RushShelby Energy, the electric distribution cooperative, has been instrumental in the development of Intelliplex, providing electrical power since the tech park’s inception in 2004 and powering reNovo from construction through operation.

Electric power is available from two substations and one metering point offering redundancy, said David Toll, key accounts manager at RushShelby Energy.

“We designed it that way with what they’re trying to attract to the park – technology businesses,” Toll said. “And we ran all new 3-phase lines from the substation in February 2008.”

RushShelby Energy has worked on numerous economic development projects in Shelby County, Indiana and has always stepped up and exceeded expectations, said Dan Theobald, executive director of the Shelby County Development Corp., the local economic development organization.

“The REMC has been a great partner in our efforts to create news jobs and capital investment in the county,” according to Theobald.

Indiana Business and Technology Park: Intelliplex
Major Hospital has been a driving force behind the creation of Intelliplex, working with city and county elected leaders to bring new economic development to the tech park. The hospital has also worked closely with the REMC to guarantee that Intelliplex has all the electric power needed to attract new Indiana business growth and create jobs.

“Reliable power is absolutely critical for our healthcare operations and the park’s high tech tenants. RushShelby Energy has never let us down,” said Bob Carmony, director of marketing and communications for Major Hospital.

Anchoring the Life Sciences Cluster
Two new orthopedic surgeons and an undetermined number of new employees will staff reNovo when it opens in the summer of 2009. Besides the two hospital facilities, Intelliplex also houses a regional campus of Indiana Wesleyan University, an office complex with a fiber optic teleconferencing center and the corporate headquarters of Makuta, a manufacturer of micro-molded components for the electronics, pharmaceutical and automotive industries.
